TRAVELING WITH BABY

greyandscout_traveling_baby

Isla’s been on several flights and driven cross country. She’s obsessed with books, so that’s been our saving grace. Isla’s a happy traveler, but babies throw curve balls all the time. She’s 9 months old, so her expectations of being occupied are high. And it’s not just the plane ride, it’s the time spent at the airport that little ones need to get through, too. We’re embarking on another trip over the holidays, that includes planes and a lengthy car drive, so being prepared is at the top of the to-do list. I’ve put together some tips that have helped us not want to pull out our hair.

  • extra diapers & wipes – pack them but ALSO remember to bring them on the plane
  • boogie wipes & spray – the saline helps fight the dry plane air & keeps tiny noses from getting chapped
  • disposable bibs – nobody wants to stuff messy bibs back into the luggage
  • books, toys, teethers
  • extra onesie/outfit – accidents (always) happen
  • blanket/nursing cover – for feeding and keeping warm under those cool fans
  • antibacterial wipes – to clean tray, armrests, etc
  • pacifiers/nurse – relieves ear pressure during takeoff and landing
  • utensils – for airport restaurants (the crackers they give out on planes make for great “crinkle” toys)
  • cup lids – these fit on any cup (so you don’t have to carry around a slew of sippy cups)
  • make friends with the people around you – most are very understanding
  • promptly order a cocktail as soon as they are offered
  • don’t sweat the small stuff – if people are annoyed, too bad IT’S PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
  • it’s a couple hours of your life, you land, it’s over, deep breaths
